     butchers.jpg

The minute I entered this place, I decided that it reminds me of the atmosphere that only a house of an unknown village can have. Be prepared to find a very rustic interior – retro chairs, archaic tables with white flowers in vine bottles on them, dried red pepers which hang from the ceiling, as if you are in the kitchen an old granny who prepares everything by herself.

In the world of plastic such places are hard to find, a perfect spot to experience a rural escape. Maybe not for too long, though, because the lack of air conditioning was strongly felt, especially after the second glass of wine.
The menu list did not offer many things which is a good sign of the quality of the food and actually, it was all written on the black board on one of the walls, constantly reminding of what might be next. The names of the meals had something very South American in the way they sounded – “Kish” made оf some fancy ingredients…
The wine list was exhaustive and the wine itself – served in old-school bottles and poured in one hundred years old looking-like glasses – rough and simple.
Actually, there are many things that could be said about this place, starting with the fact that it is not only a restaurant but a butcher’s shop as well but it is better if you check it by yourselves. It definitely makes impression.

Dinner for two would be about 40 or 50 Leva (20/25 Euro).

Parking in this area might be a bit of a problem.

The address is: 4 Sheinovo str., very close to Kra Kra str.

    ugo.jpg

Ugo restaurant has been at the lists of Sofia’s guides for a long time. It is a popular place to eat and its numerous tables are suitable to bring together a whole team.

What surprised me during my recent visit was the renewed menu in which some exotic and curious combinations have been introduced.
In the salad section, the presence of the avocado was so tangible that it seems to appear in every dish marked with the label “new”. Not bad, since the avocado is at the top 10 of all diets ever. Probably, the intention of the chefs is to increase the amount of “good” cholesterol in our bodies. Moreover, it enriches the salad, making its taste distinctive and unusual, since the avocados don’t grow around.
Carvuli salad is nice – the potatoes are baked, cut in half and stuffed with a strange mixture of cheese and some spices.
There is very a delicious Kus Kus, typical for the Eastern tradition, offered in two or three variants or instead you can switch to the Italian cuisine by ordering pizza or spaghetti.

In short, in Ugo you have lots of choice and this is especially useful in the small hours of the night because the place is open non-stop. At least, the one which is on 68 “Neofit Rilski” str. since in the center of Sofia there are several Ugo restaurants.

There is a menu in Engish as well.

A dinner for two would be about 20 Leva (10 Euro).

Address:  68 “Neofit Rilski”Str., near “the Small 5 corners” junction.

The restaurant is part of the Red House – Center for Culture and Debate.

Now I get it – the owners’ idea has been the discussions which take place in the halls inside, at some point to continue outside, in the restaurant, where the atmosphere is not so formal and at the same time equally art-looking like. The place is cleverly organized and stylishly arranged.

Though, the colorfully painted tables and the designer chairs in the style of Ron Arad cannot replace the impressions which we got from the service.
The beer was warm. And it is not nice to drink warm beer, especially in a hot summer day. When we complained about it to the waitress, she said that she could do nothing about except to bring us some ice. So, we drank beer with ice.
The citronade wasn’t anything special, it had ice as well, some lemon and it seemed that the sparkling water dominated over the taste of lemon.
The chicken fillet with sesame and honey was very tasty but the portion was small or it looked so in the big square white plate. However, it was a beautiful and eye-catching plate.
The music – it was absent, instead we could hear the ringing of cell phones now and then. This might have its positive sides – we know which are the latest and the coolest ringtones now.

At some point, the waitress came and asked us whether we want the bill which we interpreted as a hint that it is time to leave. Actually, we were not ready to leave, we were ready to ran away in panic.

My first impression when I was brought to have dinner in this place was that smoking is not allowed anywhere inside. The restaurant is the first of this kind that I have been in Sofia. No smoking, please, wait until you go outside.
And the fact that it is vegetarian is even cooler. It seems that the vegetarians are not rare birds, a species threatened with extinction.
The interior is nothing flashy – mellow green color on the walls, wooden tables; it is obvious that the accent is on the food.
Dream House restaurant offers interesting menu which surely is out of the ordinary style. Some of the meals remind us of the Indian cuisine with its exotic spices and weird ingredients which make their color really bright and inviting to eat.
The salads are dressed with fresh and sweet-scented sauces while in the main course section, the list with rice is exhaustive.
I recommend Yin yang rice or pasta with tomatoes and mushrooms.
The next thing is its location. The restaurant is on the second floor of a building on Alabin str. You go through a commercial passageway unless you see a white door on the left. Just open it and the slightly spiral staircase  will lead you there. By the way, it shares the floor with Tanka Chervena Liniya Bar (Thin Red Line Bar), but I am sure that you will make the distinction.

A dinner for two would be about 20 leva (10 Euro).
    Open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The address is 50a Alabin Str.

The way the food is prepared and its quality makes this place one of the most preferable, especially when it comes to pizza. I believe this is one of the reasons why this pizza and restaurant place is so popular, even it has 6 other branches scattered all over Sofia.
The central one, though, is between Chervilo Club and the Central Military Club, on 7 Tsar Osvoboditel Blvd. With its two patios – one in front and one in the back of the restaurant, the view depends on you – either looking at the boulevard and Gradinkata na Kristal (Crystal’s garden) or the quieter one – viewing at Alexander Nevski square and a historical Turkish jail.
As a whole, the atmosphere is welcoming and friendly – inviting you to concentrate on the food menu which is very exhaustive – you will need time to study it, and the good part is that they have it in English.
The staff are very polite and patient, always ready to recommend something special.
Except the food, you can find a Wi-Fi connection for your computer.

A lunch for two would be about 30 leva (15 Euro).

Victoria Pizza & Restaurant is open 24 hours, 7 days a week.

Now that summer days are long, the need to be close to water is stronger than in any other season.

Iskar reservoir is only 50 km away from our capital. You have to take the road to Pancharevo Lake, Samokov and Borovets (the ski resort) and there is no chance to miss it since the road passes by it.

It is the biggest reservoir in Bulgaria and 2/3 of the water for Sofia is taken from there. It is a pity though that it reaches our homes with the taste of iron, bearing in mind the beautiful place it comes from.
The reservoir has populated areas so to say, the ones that offer water jets and windsurfs, as well as boats for renting. Yes, you can go extreme.
The confined zones are nice, you are surrounded by nature and by some insects as well which after few hours start to look cute. The smell of swamp soon disappears and there is nothing left for you except to go into the water. Just ignore the fact that it looks muddy, let it not mislead you that it is not clear. Samples of the water are taken every day.

You can play frisbee, set up a tent, a bonfire on which delicious sausages or nadenici could be prepared. In short, perfect spot for picnic or camping. Just not forget some anti-insect lotions since the mosquitoes like the water just like you.

So, say no to urbanization, the wildlife is calling.

The summer has many surprises in store. That is why we love it!

This time is no exception as we are preparing mentally and physically for a great event, namely The Open-Air Summer Festival. How cool is that?
Lots of air, music, especially music and good mood are gathered in one place. The Sun is arranged to shine for us and the Moon is involved too. It is important not to forget that the music will never stop for 46 hours, 15 minutes and 54 seconds, as far as my calculations are right.

So, be prepared, because you will hear one of the best Bulgarian artists, djs, performers, guys who play live music and guys who sing it. The guests of the festival are from UK, USA and other exotic countires.

The rest of us will dance.

The place is near Kutina village, about 15 km away from Sofia.

There is a public transport and you can find more info here: http://www.hmsu.org/
