The first-person guide to Sofia, Bulgaria-
August 26th, 2008everything elseLet’s not think that when we don’t have the money, our trip is ruined. After a short consideration and relying on my own experience, I reached to the conclusion that having 20 Leva (10 Euro) in the pocket are enough to survive a whole day in Sofia, moreover, to have fun and to learn new things. Just check out the calculations below.
1. Breakfast
Banitca and Boza – 1,20 Leva (10.00 a.m.);
2. A stroll in the Boris garden – away from the city noise or if you have your laptop, you can browse in Internet in Zaimov park - there is a free wi-fi (10.30a.m. – 12.00p.m.);
3. Lunch time
Duner kebap and Airan or a slice of pizza and mineral water – 3.00 Leva (12.10 p.m.);
4. Museum time
University Botanical Garden of Sofia (admission 2 Leva) (12.30 p.m.);
National Museum of Natural History or if you feel like playing chess, try a game of chess at the same price- 2 Leva (2.00 p.m. – 3.30 p.m.);
Sofia University’s Prehistorical Museum – free entrance (3.40 p.m. – 5.20 p.m.);
5. Back in the hotel/hostel
Beauty Sleep (5.40 p.m. – 7.30 p.m.);
6. Dinner time
Tarator, Shopska Salad and Gyuvetche with cheese - 8.70 Leva (8.00 p.m. – 9.00 p.m.);

August 26th, 2008Bars & Cafes
This cafe serves great coffee and furthermore, you can combine it with some hard drinks when the sun sets down.
The cafe is brimming with young people who discuss energetically different themes of the cultural life; and no wonder why – the place is at one of the sides of the National Film and Theatre Academy “Krastio Sarafov”. So you can imagine the artistic atmosphere which the visitors create… sometimes noisy, sometimes quiet but always friendly and curious.
I am sure that there you can find out information about different plays or happenings which are worth visiting.Sometimes pantomime plays are brought on the stage of Sofia’s theatres, so there is an opportunity for you to get familiar with the local scene and more importantly, to understand the plot, since there is no Bulgarian speech. However, whatever the play, it would be of interest to you.
Drinks for two would be around 5 to 10 Leva (2,5 to 5 Euro)

August 20th, 2008Bars & Cafes
When I said that about Butcher’s Restaurant could be said many things, Butcher’s Bar is a whole new chapter. Its location is right next to the restaurant, though they don’t have one and the same entrance but rather share one building.
It is obvious that the bar appeared after the restaurant. One can sense the atmosphere of the freshly pained walls. To me the interior is both funny and artistic – I was surprised to recognize, literary, the chairs which every school had in the nearly past (and probably now as well), though these ones are painted in some mellow creamy colors. The tables are from rusty metal sheets with irregular shape and uneven enough to make your drink stand as if it will spill every second. Still, it is made on purpose and the result is great. And the bar chairs, they are with weird design, handmade and somehow uncomfortable, especially if you sit on them more than half an hour or after the second drink, the chances to find yourself on the ground are growing. The way the bar is lighted changes the whole atmosphere – it makes it cozy and at the same time suitable to start the night.
Drinks – for the ones who prefer non-alcoholic cocktails – there aren’t any. However, the list with spirits is exhaustive. The bar serves only foreign brands of alcohol, it has Bulgarian beer and juices.
A perfect place to meet friends for a midnight drink accompanied by the mixes of qualified djs who prefer vinyl, instead the regular cd.During the day, parking a car there might be problematic.
Drinks for two would be about 15 or 20 leva ( 7 – 10 Euro)
The address is: 4 Sheinovo str.
