Описание

The former residence of the first bulgarian knyaz (prince) Alexander I Batenberg houses the National Art Gallery along with the National Еthnographic Мuseum. It is the ideal place for lovers of or those curious about Bulgarian art, as you can see a varied collection of early Bulgarian art from the IV century until today.

After the Liberation of Bulgaria, the task of reconstructing the former Turkish residence into a royal palace was assigned to the Austrо-Hungarian architect Viktor Rumpelmayer. The result is a beautifully stylish space, carrying the charm of french salons from XVII – XVIII centuries.

Apart from Тhe Palace, Тhe National Art Gallery has a number of other spaces throughout the city such as Тhe Crypt, Kvadrat 500, The Museum of Art from the Socialist Period, Sofia Arsenal – Museum of Contemporary Art and house museums. Its collection consists of over 42 000 works of art from Bulgaria, Europe, Asia, America and Africa.
