Sofia’s new artistic hub — Toplocentrala — is a joint initiative between a group of artists from the independent arts scene and Sofia Municipality, launched in 2014 with the main aim of transforming the former heating plant of the National Palace of Culture, built in 1981, into a centre for contemporary arts in the modern European style. Today, it features several multifunctional stages for the performing arts and its own gallery space.
