For many years now, one bar has been a favourite among locals and tourists alike, known by its almost historic name, ‘Club for the Aesthetic Education of the Artist’, or K.E.V.A. for short. 

Wondering why K.E.V.A. is such a popular spot? The answer lies in the combination of a great location, an interesting interior, fantastic drinks and a unique team of managers, bartenders and various guest DJs. This formula, tried and tested over the years, creates a truly unique spot in Sofia. The bar is ‘hidden’ in a courtyard with its own distinct style; in summer it resembles an urban garden, whilst in winter there are bars and tables on several levels, richly adorned with plenty of plants. However, the most distinctive feature of K.E.V.A. is undoubtedly the character of the staff – sincere and genuine, iconic city figures. They communicate in a “street” language that resonates with young people and embrace diverse, interesting and niche events. K.E.V.A. seeks similar “qualities” in its customers too — understanding, tolerance, an open-minded attitude and a willingness to embrace innovation. 

The name K.E.V.A. is linked to the venue’s long history – the bar is located in the courtyard of the National Academy of Theatre and Film Arts, and the students are an integral part of the venue’s bohemian atmosphere. Students often use the rooms for photoshoots, videos or rehearsals, bringing K.E.V.A. even more to life, which is why it is never boring there. The bar has a mission – to encourage creative and distinctive individuals to collaborate on all kinds of projects utilising the space. That is why the most frequent visitors are artistic types, free from prejudice and seeking new experiences, as well as classic connoisseurs of urban culture. 

The interior is in ruin-bar style and the place is left to evolve naturally according to the events held there. Initially, the furniture was collected from various other venues, so the details you encounter are unique in their own right – from vintage furniture to iconic drawings, posters, graffiti and other interesting decorations on the walls. And as Ivan Stoichkov – K.E.V.A., the driving force behind the bar’s revival, says, “it is still learning”, searching for meaning and experimenting, and every customer can leave a little piece of their visit behind.
