The largest state-run museum project of our time, opened in 2015 and affectionately dubbed the ‘Bulgarian Louvre’, is like a labyrinth with its 28 galleries spread over four floors, where you can easily lose yourself for hours. We really like the building, the new extensions and the courtyard, and we can’t wait for the place to soon get a nice café, a better bookshop and more helpful information about the exhibitions. We highly recommend the National Museum, where you can see nearly two thousand of the over 40,000 works in the 120-year-old national collection. The Bulgarian collection includes works by great classics such as Vladimir Dimitrov – the Master and successful contemporary artists such as Nedko Solakov.
