Somewhere between Block 67 and children running around with a ball lies Sofia’s largest lake – the one in Druzhba 1. It is the largest lake within the city limits. It appeared quite by chance – in the 1970s, when groundwater gushed out during excavation for building materials. The prefabricated blocks were going up, but so was the water. A little later, the area was landscaped and the lake became a favourite spot for the residents of “Druzhba” and the surrounding neighbourhoods.

Over the years, the spot has become a scene of morning strolls, summer idleness, fishermen hoping for a catch, and children counting ducks. In 2022, a new idea emerged – artist Mina Minov proposed a project called ‘Block in the Lake’: a miniature metal model of blocks 67 and 68, transformed into a birdhouse. Although the project was approved by the creative committee of the Sofia Municipality, it met with disapproval from local residents, who felt the art installation was out of place. For this reason, the artistic intervention did not go ahead.
