The Hadji Dimitar residential area is full of hidden treasures! Villa Rustica (a rural villa) is a late antique Roman villa, discovered in 1966–67 during the construction of the housing estate. It is believed that the estate, comprising six buildings spread over an area of 5 decares and connected by stone paths, was built in the 3rd century. It was soon destroyed and plundered during the Gothic invasion in the last quarter of the century. Today, only the family mausoleum is on display and open to visitors. The remaining residential and farm buildings lie beneath the surrounding blocks of flats.

In 2010, a team comprising the Poduyane District, the ‘Old Sofia’ Public Enterprise, the Institute for Art Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the ‘Transformatori’ association began work on the restoration and revitalisation of the site. Their work was interrupted in 2011 and the site has not been maintained since then.
